The Vancouver School of Bodywork and Massage is excited to offer a comprehensive 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training, which is registered with Yoga Alliance.
"When you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary project, all your thoughts break their bounds: Your mind transcends limitations, your consciousness expands in every direction and you find yourself in a new, great and wonderful world. Dormant forces, faculties and talents become alive, and you discover yourself to be a greater person by far than you ever dreamed yourself to be." -- Patanjali
About Yoga
The origins of yoga may date back as far as 2500 B.C. Although in the West yoga has become more identified with the Asanas (physical postures), the practice of yoga is much more than that. Yoga literally means "union" or "joining" and its ultimate goal is to reunite the individual self with the Absolute or pure consciousness. Hatha Yoga is the skillful use of seemingly opposing forces - inhale and exhale, strength and surrender, renunciation and full participation in life, to find the place where these forces are reconciled - the heart.
"Union with this unchanging reality liberates the spirit from all the senses of separation, freeing it from the illusion of time, space and causation."
Some of the benefits of yoga practice are as follows:
- Increased strength and flexibility
- Relief from conditions such as high blood pressure, chronic fatigue, and asthma
- Decreased cholesterol and blood sugar level
- Weight loss
- Reduced signs of aging
- Increased energy
- Mental clarity and increased capacity to concentrate
- Improved ability to deal with stress
- Greater sense of purpose and peace of mind
- Deeper connection to who we really are, and a deeper connection to others
- A healthier, more fulfilled life
People come to yoga for many reasons and the great thing is, anyone can practice yoga at any stage of life. In addition to the physical postures, yoga includes breathing and relaxation exercises, meditation and positive thought, as well as dietary and other lifestyle considerations.
With yoga's booming popularity worldwide, there is a huge demand for qualified teachers who can facilitate safe, effective, informative and fun classes.
About the Open Source Approach
There are many paths of Yoga - as many paths in fact, as practitioners. Open Source Yoga is an approach that seeks to remember the space between the paths - it is actually the forest between individual paths that gives each path definition. Yoga is the remembrance of our connection to this source. Every school of Yoga is simply an approach. Some approaches work better at certain times than others. Open Source Yoga also understands that the practice is always evolving, and every Yogi adds a voice to that evolution, increasing consciousness and adding the beauty of deeper understanding to the world. This is the Yin, or the receptive principle, to the Yang of one path. An Open Source Yogi therefore has access to all approaches while refining the ability to discern the best approach for him/herself.
